EXCLUSIVE: George Burgess’ wife Joanna confirms the family are moving to Australia permanently after two years in the UK – as the league star says he’s ‘looking forward’ to reuniting with his brothers Sam, Luke and Tom

George Burgess’ wife Joanna has revealed she and her family are permanently moving to Australia, after relocating to the UK in 2019.

On Sunday, the model, 31, confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that she and her two young daughters are currently in quarantine in Sydney, but were forced to travel separately from George and their four-year-old son due to restriction complications.

‘George, our three children and I have moved back to Aus,’ the mother-of-three confirmed. ‘Unfortunately, we are having to quarantine separately.

‘Long story short, Singapore changed their travel laws last minute.

‘My son [Boston] was required to have a Covid test to enter Singapore for our connecting flight back home, which takes 24-48 hours to get results back.

‘My husband stayed in the UK waiting for their results, which meant the girls and I had to travel separately.’

While it’s yet to be confirmed, the news of their arrival comes amid rumours George, 29, has signed a two-year contract with the St George Illawarra Dragons.

On Sunday, he shared a throwback picture alongside his rugby league star brothers Sam, Luke and Tom on Bondi beach – revealing how thrilled he is for the siblings to finally be together again.

The family had relocated to the UK in 2019, after George – who formerly played as a prop for the South Sydney Rabbitohs – signed a three-year deal with England’s Wigan Warriors.

He played eight times in the 2020 season, before leaving the club due to an ongoing hip injury.

In June 2021, George confirmed his interest in an NRL comeback with the Dragons following life-changing hip surgery.

He told Nine he had an ‘informal chat’ with St George Illawarra assistant coach Peter Gentle about potentially pursuing a gig with the Dragons.

‘It was a really informal thing… I’m mates with him and keep in touch with him and he just spoke to me and obviously he’s an assistant there now,’ he said.

‘It was really informal but obviously the Dragons are a great club.’
