Surveillance footage has captured the dramatic moment a woman fended off a brazen thief who tried to steal her Mercedes at a Georgia gas station.

The woman, known only as Princess, was filling up her luxury vehicle at a Texaco in College Park on Monday night when the attempted robbery occurred.

Video shows her standing at the pump, located on the passenger’s side of her gray car, before a blue vehicle arrives on the scene.

A man can then be seen jumping out of the blue car before he tries to open the driver’s door of the Mercedes in an attempt to make off with the automobile.

However, Princess was quick to react, jumping through the window of her car in order to protect it.

Her instant reaction scared off the would-be burglar, who got back into the blue vehicle and quickly drove off.

Speaking with WSBTV, Princess revealed she was suspicious from the moment she noticed the blue vehicle arrive on the scene.

‘As soon as I saw his door crack [open], I was already jumping in my car,’ she stated.

The attempted theft was a ‘slider crime’ – a  type of robbery in which thieves slide into unlocked cars, usually at a gas station, in order to drive off with the vehicle or steal contents from inside.

Georgia has been gripped by a series of slider crimes in recent months – with many occurring in Atlanta.

In January, police warned motorists to be alert and lock their car doors while pumping gas, following a ‘spike’ in slider crimes in the city.

According to WSBTV, dozens of the crimes were occurring Atlanta every week in the second half of 2018.

Last August, a woman was even dragged out of her own Audi at a gas station by a brazen thief who then drove off in the vehicle.
