Actor Gerald Castillo has passed away at the age of 90.  

His wife, Dayna Quinn-Castillo, announced her husband had died at his home in Houston on May 4, according to The Hollywood Reporter. 

Castillo’s many credits include playing Mario Lopez’s on-screen father Major Slater in two episodes of the hit series Saved By The Bell. 

His impressive resume includes roles in the iconic television shows All In The Family, Dallas, Dynasty, M*A*S*H, The Jeffersons, and Dragnet. 

The Chicago-born actor learned about acting and stage direction at the Goodman Theater before he started performing opposite the likes of Rita Moreno and Sherman Hemsley on stages across the country, according to THR.

Hemsley was the one who persuaded him to relocate to Los Angeles and pursue a career in showbusiness.  

The first time he appeared on screen was on a 1978 episode of The Jeffersons.

In the years to follow, he nabbed countless roles on the small screen, and his career even took him onto the big screen. 

His film credits included Hero At Large, Through Naked Eyes, Delta Force 2: The Colombian Connection, State of Emergency. 

Oftentimes, he played the ‘tough guy’, according to THR.
