German Football Association president Bernd Neuendorf has revealed that discussions have taken place with Julian Nagelsmann about the possibility of extending his contract.

Nagelsmann’s current deal is set to expire after Euro 2024 and he has been linked with clubs including Liverpool and Manchester United.

However, Neuendorf is eager for the 36-year-old could remain in charge of Germany.

Neuendorf told ZDF: ‘It would be absolutely desirable from our side (to extend Nagelsmann’s contract).

‘We’re a good team, we get on well, we’re in intensive dialogue.’

Germany won 2-0 away to France in a friendly on Saturday, with Florian Wirtz and Kai Havertz both scoring.

Earlier this month, Nagelsmann revealed that he wanted his future to be resolved as soon as possible.

He said: ‘If I have a contract offer before the European Championship that I am happy with and where I say I feel comfortable and where I see myself, then there is a high probability that I will sign it before the European Championship.’ 

Nagelsmann has been in charge of Germany since last September. He previously managed Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim.

Hosts Germany will face Scotland, Hungary and Switzerland in the group stages at Euro 2024.

Since being appointed as Germany boss, Nagelsmann has overseen two wins, one draw and two defeats.

Newcastle have also reportedly identified Nagelsmann as a potential replacement for Eddie Howe.

Jurgen Klopp is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season and there is much speculation over who will replace him at Anfield, with Nagelsmann potentially amongst the contenders.

Meanwhile, there remains uncertainty over Erik ten Hag’s future as Manchester United boss, which has led to speculation regarding Nagelsmann being a possible replacement.
