Germany are still No 1 in the world FIFA rankings and posted a smug tweet on Thursday following the announcement.
Joachim Löw’s side retained their spot at the summit of the rankings ahead of this summer’s World Cup with 1602 points.
And the German football team Twitter account posted on the social media platform following the news.

The tweet said: ‘New year, new @FIFAcom rankings – and #DieMannschaft are still number one.’
Germany are currently second favourites to win the World Cup in Russia behind Brazil.
The top five remained the same with Brazil (1483 points) in second followed by Portugal (1358), Argentina (1348) and Belgium (1325).
England, however, moved down one place to 16th in the world with 1047 points while Wales stayed in 19th (985).
Croatia moved above Gareth Southgate’s side by one point.
Northern Ireland moved down to 25th (867) while the Republic of Ireland and Scotland retained joint 32nd (798).
