Giannis Antetokounmpo has avoided an ankle scare after he was seen limping off in Greece’s blowout win against Estonia to progress to the round of 16 at EuroBasket on Thursday.

The Greek ‘Freak’ scored 25 points in 19 minutes before leaving midway through the third quarter in the Group C finale for both teams, as Estonia crashed out along with Great Britain.

Antetokounmpo was seen limping while leaving the Mediolanum Forum in Milan, but was able to take part in postgame on-court celebrations and exchanged handshakes with Estonia’s players and coaches.

Greece coach Dimitrios Itoudis said Antetokounmpo got ice and treatment, but did not sound worried.

‘It’s all good,’ Itoudis told reporters in a postgame interview, clarifying that his star player’s injury involves his ankle, not his knee as initially reported.

His injury will be a cause of concern for the Milwaukee Bucks with less than a month before the start of training camp in October.

The Wisconsin franchise is vying for a spot in the NBA Finals this upcoming season and will need Antetokounmpo healthy and firing on all cylinders to achieve their goals.

The six-time All star missed 10 or more games during the regular season in his last four years. In the 2021-22 season, he missed a total of 15 games.

The Bucks are involved in five preseason games against the Memphis Grizzlies, Atlanta Hawks (twice), Chicago Bulls and the Brooklyn Nets before taking on Joel Embiid’s Philadelphia 76ers on opening night on October 20.

Their first game of the season will be broadcasted on TNT and tip-off is at 7.30p.m.
