Giant 13lb baby boy born to mother aged 42 in China

A Chinese woman has given birth to a giant baby boy who weighed six kilograms (13.2 pounds).

The child, born via a Caesarean Section today, is nearly twice as heavy as an average newborn boy in China and one of the heaviest the country has seen.

According to the boy’s father, ultrasound scans had shown that the baby was ‘big’, but he didn’t expect him to be so heavy.

The mother, from Liu’an city in eastern China’s Anhui Province, stands 5ft 2in. The boy is her second child.

Her husband told Pear Video that the doctors initially suggested she give birth naturally. However after they reviewed the result of the ultrasound, they arranged a C-section for her. 

The man called the C-section a ‘lucky decision’.

Apparently, the woman weighed 97 kilograms (214 pounds) when she went into labour.   

A newborn Chinese boy weighs 3.32 kilograms (7.3 pounds) on average while a newborn Chinese girl weighs 3.21 kilograms (7 pounds), according to the country’s Ministry of Health.

Both the baby and his mother are in stable condition.
