A driver received the shock of their life after they opened the bonnet of their car to reveal a giant python warming itself on the engine.

The huge reptile was disguised among the dark pipes in a photo shared to the Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers Facebook page on Thursday.

It was apparently spotted nestling its way inside the toasty compartment by an onlooker, but unfortunately they alerted the driver a little too late.

A giant python was found warming itself on a car’s engine in Queensland on Thursday. According to snake catchers it could have traveled up to 29kms in the steamy spot

The python was eventually coaxed out by professional snake catchers in the Queensland town of Coolum Beach, but they said it could have traveled from as far as Noosa— a town 29 kilometers away.

‘Could have hitched a ride from Noosa!,’ the catchers wrote in the comments of the photo.

‘Someone saw it go in and notified them, they tried to stop it but it was a big strong snake,’ they said.

‘Once they get wrapped around something it’s hard to stop them moving without seriously injuring them!’

An eagle eye fan pointed out it was a ‘Coastal Carpet (python) inside the front quarter panel.’

But it was the skillful techniques used by the snake catchers that had everyone safely on their way.

‘How do you take out the python without having to do serious mechanical work and injuring the snake?’ a curious Facebook user commented.

To which the professional’s replied: ‘Just a lot of gently prodding and ticking of its tail! Eventually he came out in to an area I could get him out without hurting him.’

Many expressed their horror at the situation, praising the work of the of the gentlemen who retrieved the reptile from its risky resting spot.

While others leaped at the opportunity show off their pun-making skills: ‘What sorta car is it??? A Hissan?,’ one joked, another adding, ‘I thought was hisss-terical.’
