A Gibraltar murder trial has heard evidence from a six-year-old girl that her father stabbed his wife to death before injuring himself with the knife.

Real Lishman, 43, is accused of murdering 32-year-old Carolina Lishman on the Rock in November 2017, which he denies.

The territory’s Supreme Court heard the young child’s account that she had tried to stop her father from stabbing himself while her mother lay dying on the floor.

A forensic pathologist also gave evidence that Mr Lishman had turned the weapon on himself, the Olive Press reported.

In evidence read to the court, the child said: ‘Daddy stabbed mummy, then daddy stabbed himself.

‘I tried to stop daddy from stabbing himself. Blood got on top of me and mummy is in the kitchen.

‘Daddy was stabbing himself, mummy on the floor, daddy on the floor.’

The young girl was said to have left the house ‘crying hysterically’ and covered in blood.

The medic, Brett Lockyer, told the court that Mrs Lishman had suffered 12 wounds including one into her heart which ‘would have been fatal on its own’.

At the time of the killing in 2017 Mrs Lishman, who was said to have grown up in North London, was described as ‘a lovely girl’.

It was described as the first murder on Gibraltar since 2015 when a Welsh man slaughtered his young family.

John Shannon butchered his partner and two children with a knife before slashing his throat and committing suicide.

Shannon, 37, who was suffering from extreme paranoia, was on steroids, cannabis and alcohol at the time of the attack.

Mr Lishman denies murder.

The trial continues.
