Gigi Hadid poses in Carine Roitfel’s calendar

A flurry of models have posed in an athletic-themed photo shoot for the first calendar published by Carine Roitfeld’s magazine.

Gigi Hadid, Candice Swanepoel are three of the 13 people who partnered with the former Vogue editor-in-chief on this project, which benefits the Special Olympics.

CR Fashion Book, Roitfeld’s magazine, came to be in 2012 but had never released a calendar. For its first one ever, the publication decided to include not just 12, but 13 months, beginning in December 2017 and ending in December 2018.

Gigi, 22, opens the calendar and can be seen on the December 2017 page, posing in a white bra and panties along with chunky boots, lifting a dumbbell with one arm while resting against a weight bench, her red lipstick and bedazzled earrings in stark contrast with her athletic surroundings.

Model Grace Elizabeth, 20, appears on the January 2018 section in front of a squat rack, reaching for the pull-up bar in a black leotard, matching pumps, and a short blazer.

Meanwhile, Paris, 19, posed for April 2018 in a similarly glamorous short and can be seen on a stationary bike, donning a glittery black jumpsuit and long red hair.

Somali-American model Halima Aden, 20, can be seen on the November 2018 section next to a squat rack, wearing a hijab and a floor-length, long-sleeved dress in a stunning shot.

Victoria’s Secret Angel Candice Swanepoel, 29, closes the calendar with a photo of herself pulling on a rope, with her shadow displayed on a white screen behind her. The mother, who gave birth to her son Anacã a year ago, wears a single-sleeved black dress and black pumps in the arresting shot. Each calendar will be sold at $200, and all proceeds from sales will benefit the Special Olympics, the world’s largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

With the calendar, which was shot by Steven Klein and features equipment by Technogym, Roitfeld wanted to feature what she sees as diverse beauties and body types.

‘Throughout my career, I have championed diversity of both race and body type,’ she said. ‘This casting includes both iconic supermodels and fresh faces in a modern representation of beauty and body. It’s about the multiplicity of woman in the year 2018.’

Roitfeld was inspired to set up the fitness-themed shoot and to support the Special Olympics by her personal trainer, who is visually impaired.

‘I am in awe of any person who devotes their mind and body to athletics, but especially those with disabilities. This is the definition of courage,’ she said. ‘I am pleased the proceeds of this calendar support the Special Olympics—an organization I greatly respect—and to promote the visibility of its efforts.’

The former Vogue editor-in-chief will host a signing of the calendar at the Bookmarc bookstore in New York City next week.
