Girl, 12, is killed as female driver and 10-year-old boy are rushed to hospital after their car crashed into a truck

  • A 12-year-old girl has died after a car crashed and caught on fire near Mackay
  • Two others have been rushed to Mackay hospital and are in a stable condition
  • Forensic crash unit officers are at the scene

A 12-year-old girl has died after the station wagon she was in collided with a truck and caught fire near Mackay in North Queensland. 

The young girl was pronounced dead at the scene and a female driver and 10-year-old boy were rushed to the hospital. 

Emergency services were called just after 7.30pm and arrived at the intersection of Brand Road and Otterburn Conners Road in Mirani shortly after.

Crew members from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services managed to put out the fire at 8:06pm. 

While the girl died from serious injuries at the scene, the woman and boy are in a stable condition and recovering at Mackay Hospital.

The truck driver was not injured. 

Forensic crash unit officers are at the scene and will remain there overnight.
