A 16-year-old girl has been arrested and charged with manslaughter in Texas after fatally shooting an eight-year-old boy with a pellet rifle. 

The Titus County Sheriff’s Office shared in a Facebook press release that they were called to a residence in Mt. Pleasant on December 29 in response to calls that they boy had been shot with the air gun. 

At the scene, authorities found eight-year-old Logan Blackwell with life threatening injuries that he had sustained from the air rifle.

Logan was taken to the Titus Regional Medical Center but he later died from his injuries on January 2.

Authorities conducted an investigation and believed that a ‘powerful pellet rifle’ had been used in the incident. 

Their investigation led to eventual arrest of a 16-year-old girl on Thursday, January 9.

‘MPISD extends our deepest condolences to Logan’s family, friends, and his teachers and classmates,’ the district added in their statement. 

A GoFundMe made for the boy’s family shares that Logan went without oxygen for 45 minutes before he was taken to the hospital. 

The fundraiser has raised just over $2,400 of its $5,000 goal. 

Logan’s funeral service will be held at the Assembly of God church near Mount Pleasant High School on January 12 at 2pm.

The boy’s family is asking that everyone wear blue or orange to the service.
