The hit musical Girl from the North Country is charming audiences at Sydney’s Theatre Royal.

Actress Lisa McCune, 50, has already won rave reviews for her starring role as Elizabeth Laine, the wife of a boarding house owner in 1930s Minnesota.

Her co-star Callum Francis, 26, who plays boxer Joe Scott, recently urged audience members to help revive the theatre industry post-Covid by encouraging their friends to see a live performance.

Callum told the crowd to take a selfie and post it on social media, to remind others of how great it is to be back at the theatre after months of lockdowns.

The Sydney theatregoers happily did their part, with hundreds snapping selfies with the cast of Girl from the North Country behind them.

The musical, set in Minnesota in 1934, follows a group of drifters who meet at a country guesthouse.

Written by Conor McPherson, the stage show features the reimagined songs of Bob Dylan, who hails from Minnesota.

The musical has already been a hit overseas, with sell-out seasons on London’s West End and Broadway in New York City.

The Australian production also stars the likes of Zahra Newman (The Book of Mormon) and Helen Dallimore (Wicked).
