A teenage girl who nearly knocked a rail station worker’s eye out of its socket with one punch after being stopped at the barriers is facing jail.

Tashanna Mauge, 18, ruptured the cornea of Transport for London worker Akinyika Oyedapo at Denmark Hill station in south-east London on April 15.

Mauge, from West Norwood, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm at Blackfriars Crown Court.

The teenager was spotted grinning outside the court in central London. 

She denied a further charge of racially aggravated grievous bodily harm.

Prosecutors accepted her plea and she was granted bail ahead of sentence on November 13.

Katie Bryan, prosecuting, told an earlier hearing how Mauge and her friend tried to walk through barriers which weren’t working.

‘They were challenged by a member of staff and the assault took place,’ she said.

‘The complainant tried to detain the defendant and she punched him to the face.’

Mr Oyedapo’s cornea ruptured and he has been unable to work since the assault.

The court heard he will be off work for the ‘foreseeable future’.
