Girl raped as she walked home alone from Bundaberg party

A sobbing teenage girl was pinned to a road and raped by a man who asked if she was alright walking home barefoot from a party late at night.

The 18-year-old lost her shoes after a fight with her friends and walked home alone through the dark streets of Bundaberg about 1am on November 8, 2015.

Albert ‘Alfie’ Sitters crossed the road and offered to walk her to his house where she could sleep on the couch and the distressed teen agreed.

When she later decided against going home with him, the 33-year-old predator suddenly put his hand down her singlet top and grabbed her breast.

She pushed him away and tried to leave but he grabbed her from behind and kissed her on the mouth.

‘You’re my girlfriend,’ he told her, according to the Bundaberg NewsMail.

The girl pushed him away and tried to run but fell, only for Sitters to catch her by the wait and lower her on to the road before holding her down.

She tried to kick him off her but he pinned her arms and pulled down her pants as well as his and raped her in the middle of the street. She was too scared to say a word.

Sitters fled after he was finished, leaving his victim dirty, disheveled and distressed as she made her way to a nearby pub for help.

‘He did everything to me,’ she told a patron who came to her aid outside the East End Hotel after 2am.

Sitters’ DNA matched samples taken by police and he did not deny having sex with her, but claimed it was consensual.

His lawyer Doug Winning said people became ‘disinhibited, doing things they otherwise wouldn’t have done’ after drinking – even having sex on planes.

But the girl argued she wasn’t ‘grossly intoxicated’ and only a bit tipsy from the drinks she had at the party.

Prosecutors supported this by pointing out she couldn’t have been very impaired because her description closely matched Sitters’ appearance.

A Bundaberg District Court jury took just two hours to find Sitters guilty of rape and two counts of sexual assault. He will be sentenced on Wednesday.
