Girlfriend releases final picture of father cradling his son just hours before he was shot

A girlfriend has released a heartbreaking final picture of a new father cradling his three-week-old son just hours before he was shot in a mass brawl.

Jamie Lee, 22, held his newborn son Jae in his arms just hours before he was left fighting for his life after being shot at a playpark in Castlemilk, Glasgow, last July.

Laura Ward, Jamie’s childhood sweetheart and mother of his child, has broken her silence and released the last picture of Jamie as she begs for his killer to be brought to justice.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Ms Ward said ‘We got our family portrait done that morning and then Jamie went out to watch the football.

‘I had the baby but we were due to go out that night.

‘Jamie was getting calls and being threatened and I was terrified someone was going to come to the house.

‘His mum called to say something was going on and I rushed out of the house.

‘The first thing I saw was Jamie being resuscitated.

‘My dad said it might not be him but I just knew.

‘I remember trying to get to him and that’s the image that always comes back to me – Jamie lying there and that feeling of just knowing it was him.’

Since last July, police have made several arrests but officials are still searching for Jordan Owen, 24, who vanished after Jamie’s death and hasn’t been seen since.

Jamie died after a bullet tore through arteries in his legs when he got involved in a mass brawl at a playpark just yards away from where Ms Ward lived.

Ms Ward said it still haunts her having to remember seeing paramedics attempting to resuscitate Jamie.

The new father suffered brain damage and his family made the heartbreaking decision to turn off his life support machine.

Police are still searching for Owen and have issued an European arrest warrant.

Ms Ward, who is an accounts clerk and was with Jamie for six years, added: ‘Someone somewhere knows something. This is not about me. Whoever did this took a baby’s daddy away and they need to be punished.

‘Jae has to grow up and I have to tell him that one day. You watch films and you see things like this and you think, ”This is crazy.” It’s like something off the television.

‘A normal person would have remorse. If you knew someone had shot a new dad dead, you’d be hanging your head in shame.

‘You’ve done that to a baby. That’s disgusting.’

Jamie’s mother Ann Frances, 44, recalled: ‘He had three weeks with his boy and never in my wildest dreams would I have thought he would be taken like this.’

She said she saw the scene unfold, describing it as ‘chaos’ with people in masks fleeing once a shot was fired.
