A woman whose footballer boyfriend killed himself two years ago has revealed that he was on the phone to her when he was hit by a train.
Louise Rooney was devastated when she took Chris Mitchell’s phone call, heard what happened and then noticed that trains had been cancelled following a collision.
The 27-year-old former Queen of the South player had last seen his girlfriend the day before, hugged her and told her to have a great time, according to the Daily Record.

The former Scotland under-21 player had suffered from depression and anxiety but his girlfriend says he had kept his mental health struggles hidden.
She said: ‘I was on the phone to Chris when he died – I heard everything – but still I couldn’t believe it.
‘Depression and anxiety can happen to anyone in any career but football is a particularly brutal profession.’
The footballer had been given medication and seen a psychologist but had struggled after spinal surgery had stalled his career, it is reported.
When the couple met he was playing for Clyde FC part-time while also earning mony with a factory job, Louise said.
He had told his sister that he was considering taking his own life, but Louise said it was not until the player’s father called that she started to take in what was happening.
