Girls insist they are twins despite color of their skin

A couple of cute kids from Miami are not just best friends, they’re much more than that – Miami preschoolers Jia Sarnicola and Zuri Copeland say they are twins.

The girls, who are both four and share birthdays on almost the same day say they are even closer than sisters and try to dress the same.

Of course, with one being white and the other black there is no way that they can be twins – but the little girls can dream and share a friendship like none other.

The girls’ bond runs deep and they insist on wearing matching outfits whenever possible.

‘They will tell you that they are twins, and they have a long list of reasons why to back it up,’ Jia’s mother, Ashley, said to KHOU.

The girls were asked what they believed makes Asked what the girls believe makes a twin, Zuri’s mother, Valencia, and Ashley both responded: ‘Similarities.’

Jia and Zuri’s moms have continued to indulge in their little girl’s child’s play but say there is a bittersweet element the whole thing.

Recently, Jia and Zuri told some other little girls they were twins. The girls told them they couldn't be sisters, but they insisted that the pair 'shared the same soul'

‘You know, you’re happy for a few seconds, and then you become sad because they have to grow up, and then society takes over,’ Valencia said.

Even some mean-spirited children try to break apart their fantasy world.

At a birthday party last month, an old child told Jia and Zuri they couldn’t be twins because they don’t have the same skin color.

Jia started to cry but had her own reasoning: ‘You don’t know what you’re talking about,’ she said. ‘We’re twins because we share the same soul.’

‘I just get chill bumps,’ Ashley said. ‘I was just thrown by just that word,’ Valencia added.  ‘We have a lot to learn and we can learn from children.’

‘We have always taught the girls that being different is cool, and to make friends with new people every day,’ she said. ‘In their class at school, there are six different languages between the 15 kids.’

She said Jia has told her ‘she wishes she had chocolate-color skin like Zuri because she likes chocolate better than vanilla.’
