Luckily, they had friends to lean on as they tried to make their way home from the course.

Some were seen wearing colourful dresses while others opted for a monochrome option as they enjoyed the day.

It was the owner’s first Ipswich winner after having four other previous runners at the venue.

‘The horse ran terrific, to my eyes it didn’t look a very good ride and if you were rating it out of 10, you’d give it a one for turning up so wasn’t the greatest ride but the horse is very tough and got the job done well.’

Despite his unsteady ride, the horse landed the $175,000 Cup and will spend the next fourteen days preparing for his next ride.

Tradesman will next run at the Coloundra Cup in a fortnight where Mr Weir believes the bigger track will suit him.

‘The way he went today there’s no reason why you wouldn’t be heading on to that,’ he told Racing.com.
