Glass contamination sparks nationwide Happy Tummies recall

An urgent nationwide recall of baby food pouches has been issued following fears that a batch has been contaminated with smashed up glass.

The alert affects the Rafferty’s Garden Happy Tummies Vegetable Risotto pouches with best before dates between August 10 and 12, 2018.

Consumers have been advised to not open the 120g plastic pockets, Nine News reports.

The pouches, which are designed for children older than eight months, are on shelves in most major retailers and some pharmacies throughout the country.

Parents who have purchased the products with the affected best before date have been urged to return them to collect a full refund.

A statement issued by Rafferty’s Garden states that a complication at one of the company’s rice manufacturers sparked the contamination concerns.

‘We have been advised that there was an issue at the arborio rice manufacturers where glass has entered the production process and was not detected,’ it read.

‘Although we are confident of our rigorous quality screening mechanisms in place, we have initiated a recall of the affected batches as a precautionary measure.’

The company ensured that none of its other products had been affected.

Despite the baby food distributor having promptly alerted consumers, the recall has attracted a nasty online backlash from customers who have already fed the affected batch to their children.

A disgruntled social media user wrote: ‘So, what happens if your child has already consumed it before this warning as since my child has eaten this the other day she has been unwell.’

Meanwhile, another voiced their frustrations over the company’s untimely alert: ‘You announce this right when its dinner time and many have already given this to there children for dinner.’

Multiple worried parents have since expressed concerns over the well being of their child since consuming the affected the batch.

‘Great…my kid ate this last night…,’ one wrote, another asking: ‘Tell me what’s it mean if my child has eaten them?’.
