Glaswegian woman says sleeping tablets have boosted libido

A self-employed financial advisor has revealed how her libido has gone ‘through the roof’ after taking a sleep supplement.

Jen McMahon, 28, from Glasgow, suffered from sleep deprivation which placed an enormous strain on her marriage.

At her lowest, Mrs McMahon, who worked 12-hour days, barely had the energy to have sex with husband ‘Derek’, 42. Her business also suffered.

But after scouring the internet in search of a desperate cure, she found her remedy – in the form of a £23 supplement, called Neuro Rest, used by Olympic athletes.

Within days of taking the tablets, her passion returned. Now she and her husband make love at least four times a week and her struggling career is on the up.

Mrs McMahon told MailOnline: ‘Sex life should not go to s*** at 28 years old and two years into marriage. But that’s what happens when you’re working round the clock.

THE LIBIDO-BOOSTING INGREDIENTS

After scouring the internet, Mrs McMahon came across Utmost Me’s Neuro Rest – a product which her friend had already used to help her sleep.

Within a week, she noticed the benefits, in terms of getting more sleep. This then boosted her libido.

Ingredients in the supplements, which contain magnesium, may have been responsible – not just the improved sleep. The compound can boost levels of testosterone – which fuels sex drive.

The pills are also abundant in L-Taurine, which has the same effect on women, research suggests.

Scientists have also pointed to watermelon, extracted into the supplement, as being an aphrodisiac. The exotic fruit is high in citruline, which boosts blood flow to the genitals. This is deemed vital for arousal.

The supplement also contains Griffonia seeds, cherry and grape extracts, biotin, chamomile and L-Taurine (found in quinoa).

Laura Bartlett, 29, who retired from hockey after competing at the Beijing and London Olympic games, winning bronze in 2012, is also a fan of the supplement.

‘It was having an impact on my marriage as well. Before the pills, we were shouting at each other a lot.  I was irritable and we were sleeping in separate rooms. We were thinking the worst about breaking up.

‘It had an impact on me and my health and the way I looked. I looked terrible, I wasn’t getting enough sleep.

‘Since taking the pills, I’ve become a lot fitter. I feel more refreshed in the mornings and my business has started to pick up.

‘Our marriage has become significantly better, we’ve got time to spend with each other in the bedroom.

‘I didn’t realise that it was going to be a side effect of the pills, but it really does increase your libido. We’ve started to make more time for each other in the bedroom and it’s like falling in love with each other again.’

Revamped her wardrobe

She added: ‘Before the pills, we were having sex once every three weeks. Now it’s at least four times a week. It makes everything fresh, shiny and new.

‘It’s re-ignited my sex life and I’ve started to look at websites like Ann Summers again. My wardrobe’s changed as a result. Now my style is subtle but provocative. I wear make-up more often just so I look better and feel better mainly.’

Mrs McMahon revealed she has also started to wear tighter, more revealing outfits to work and sometimes dons sexy hold-ups.

When did she become sleep deprived?

She started to become deprived of sleep in January, after she returned to the UK from a short stint working in Australia.

At the time she was making the leap from working for a corporate firm, to becoming self-employed as a financial advisor.

The uncertainty of not knowing if she would have an income affected her work-life balance for the next two months.

Mrs McMahon added: ‘I really struggled to cope with not having a wage and was constantly thinking about money.

‘I was becoming irritable, all I was talking about was money. I was up quite a lot, thinking about my wages and things like that.

‘I wasn’t a drinker before and I tried to have wine to get me to sleep to relax and it just wasn’t working.’

Often she would spend all night awake, tossing and turning as she desperately tried to settle her mind and fall asleep. She also began drinking unhealthy amounts.

In March, she became fed up with not eating or sleeping properly and being irritable. She decided that she needed to do something about it.

For the first two days of taking the tablets, Mrs McMahon struggled to get out of bed. But after a week, her body adapted and she was able to sleep through the night.

Since taking the pills, she has also lost a stone by using her new-found energy to cook her own dinners and not rely on takeaways.

Mrs McMahon added: ‘It’s had such a calming effect on me, helping me to mentally focus on the positives in my life.’

Starting a family

The strain placed on her marriage during her times of sleep deprivation meant the couple were forced to forget about having children.

But now, six months on from starting her supplements, she and her banker husband are beginning to look at starting a family.

Mrs McMahon said: ‘We put off having kids for a long time, but we have been discussing the prospect of children a lot lately.

‘My friends are having kids, and now things have steadied in terms of work and life, we’ll start thinking in the next few months.’
