‘Global outage’ rocks Ticketmaster as F1 fans fume after not being able to buy tickets for Australian Grand Prix

  • Ticketmaster hit by ‘global outage’
  • F1 fans unable to buy tickets

Ticketmaster has been slammed by F1 fans who were informed at the last minute ticket sales for the 2025 Australian Grand Prix have been delayed.

The tickets for the Melbourne event were meant to go on sale at 12pm on Tuesday.

Some fans had been in the waiting room since 11am only to be told the sales would be delayed until Wednesday.

Ticketmaster has blamed a ‘global third-party outage’ for the malfunction and issued an apology, along with Australian Grand Prix organisers.

‘Due to a global third-party outage, the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix 2025 general public onsale will be delayed until tomorrow Wednesday 9 October 12pm AEDT,’ it read.

‘We apologise for any inconvenience.’

Fans were furious and none the wiser about the delay.

‘What do they mean by third-party outage? Is it a website problem or something else?’ one said.

‘You just figured this out at 12.10pm? Not 11am when you said waiting room opened? Just happy to leave people frustrated for 70 minutes?’ one disgruntled fan wrote.

‘Might have been handy to know before we wasted our time trying to get tickets!’ another added.

The Australian Grand Prix will be held in Melbourne between March 13 and 16 next year.

The cost for a ticket has soared with the cheapest no-seat option setting back fans a staggering $169. It marks a $20 increase to the price that was charged this year.

Australian Grand Prix CEO Travis Auld defended the price increase.

‘What we’ve tried to do year-on-year is limit the increase of the base price but the realities are the cost of holding a Formula One event is increasing.

‘We are seeing unprecedented demand and we have got to try and balance that with keeping the event as accessible as possible and we’ve had a lot of conversations around that.

‘People have different views around that but that is certainly the intention.’
