The trailer, released on Wednesday, opens with Godzilla rising from the ground while a voiceover says: ‘For centuries there was harmony. 

‘The Titans were the guardians of nature and the great apes became the protectors of humanity.’

A young girl named Jia, who previously appeared in Godzilla vs. Kong, is then seen waking from what appears to be a nightmare of what is to come.

The film’s main character Dr. Ilene Andrews, played by Rebecca Hall, says: ‘We’ve discovered a signal. She can feel it.

‘Kong, Godzilla, they can feel it too. Something is coming. Something even they’re afraid of.’

The trailer then sees a group of people approaching a large gathering of apes as Dan Stevens’ character Trapper says: ‘It’s not just a signal, that’s a call for war.’

The apes are then seen banging their fists against the ground before a fight breaks out between two of them.  

Kong is then seen looking fearfully at a large creature with glowing eyes who is shrouded in darkness.

A synopsis for the film reads: ‘This latest entry follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the mighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own. 

‘The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will be released in the UK by Warner Bros. Pictures on 29th March, 2024.
