In 2017, Gok reflected on the darker times in his youth, and he previously spoke about his struggle with both obesity and anorexia on This Morning.
The fashion guru explained that his issues began when he moved to London at 21 stone – with the pressure of wanting to look like his fellow drama students driving him to lose over half of his body weight, in just eight months.
The TV personality explained that his difficulties with eating first stemmed from the fact his family owned a Chinese restaurant in Leicester, where he had his first job.

Discussing the time, which saw him pile on the pounds during high school, he revealed: ‘We loved our food. We had a restaurant, food was epicentre of life.
Admitting they had been oblivious to his appearance, he continued: ‘We were fine, it was the everyone else who had a problem with the way we looked.
‘It wasn’t until I was 21 stone and moved to London to go to drama school that I saw people looked very different to me.’

However, while this spurred the presenter on to shed the pounds, Gok then took it too far in the other direction – and developed anorexia while at university.
Revealing the dramatic effects of his condition, he shocked viewers by admitting: ‘I started dieting, and lost 11 stone in eight months. I had a very severe eating disorder.’
However when asked if he felt like he had reinvented himself through weight loss, Gok admitted he was still the same person on the inside – and has continued to be shy for the duration of his career.
He continued: ‘I did reinvent myself. But I feel like I’m still that fat kid who would sit in the room and not want to be centre of attention. I’m very shy deep down.

‘But I’ve had wonderful experiences in my life, and I feel like my life has only just started.’
Gok first opened up about his anorexia back in 2015, saying at the time that it was something he struggled with every day.
In his autobiography he detailed how he would survive for weeks on noting but fruit and honey for weeks on end, and would take up to 50 laxatives a day in a bid to slim down.
However after slowly recovering with the help of his family, the star later regained his confidence back and went on to bag the hosting role on How To Look Good Naked.
