‘She’s climbed over!’ Chilling triple-0 call a cruise ship singer made the night he allegedly threw his blind cheerleader girlfriend to her death from a high-rise balcony

  • Breeana Robinson, 21, fell 11 storeys from her boyfriend’s Gold Coast apartment
  • Her singer boyfriend Jayden Moorea has denied murdering her in January 2013
  • He was heard crying during a triple-zero call the night of her death, court heard
  • ‘I need an ambulance … my girlfriend has just climbed over the balcony,’ he said

A cruise ship singer accused of throwing his girlfriend to her death from a balcony could be heard pleading for an ambulance the night he allegedly murdered her, a court has heard.

Cheerleader Breeana Robinson, 21, plunged 11 storeys from the Gold Coast apartment of her boyfriend Dan Shearin, now known as Jayden Moorea, in January 2013.

A triple-zero call read out in court has now told of how Moorea, who denies murder, could be heard in tears as he claimed Ms Robinson had ‘climbed over the balcony’.

‘I need an ambulance, please, my girlfriend has just climbed over the balcony … I went into bedroom and saw her climb over the balcony … she had threatened to do this before,’ the operator heard Moorea say, the court heard.

Defence barrister Angus Edwards said there were no physical notes taken to record what the defendant said when police arrived at the home, The Gold Coast Bulletin reported.

But the lawyer also told the court the accused was heard calling for assistance from others at the Southport apartment block so he could get out to where Ms Robinson had been on the overhang.

The court also heard conflicting reports of the pair’s behaviour on the night of the death of the Gold Coast Titans cheerleader, who was legally blind.

Two witnesses said during a police statement the couple argued that night but stopped doing so before she was heard screaming as she fell, the court heard.

But Mr Edwards said the witnesses also told a television interview the couple argued up until the moment of her fall.

Magistrate Mark Howden agreed to allow the defence barrister to cross-examine 16 of Ms Robinson’s cheerleader teammates.

The cheerleader’s aunt has never accepted the initial view the 21-year-old took her own life, and embarked on a relentless campaign to convince authorities otherwise.

Janine Mackney had been at every court hearing about her niece’s death on January 29, 2013 as of January this year.

She always carried pink roses and photos of her young, bubbly niece – often depicting her wearing her Gold Coast Titans cheerleading outfit – to remind people who Breeana was.

‘All I have ever wanted in this six-year battle is to clear Breeana’s name,’ Ms Mackney said.
