A mother accused of dressing her young daughter in a Playboy costume and holding her hands while she was raped by several men was rushed to hospital on the day she was to be given her verdict.

The nine-year-old girl was allegedly sexually abused almost every second day over a year between May 2014 and May 2015 while her father was behind bars.

The Gold Coast mother pleaded not-guilty in the Southport District Court to three counts of rape and one count each of maintaining a sexual relationship with a child, indecent treatment of a child and deprivation of liberty.

The mother who cannot be named, was due to receive Judge David Kent’s verdict on Thursday afternoon but this has since been delayed until Friday morning.

Barrister John McInnes told the court a relative said the mother had fallen ill, The Gold Coast Bulletin reported.

‘She is at Northcliffe (tram) station being attended to by pushbike ambulance officers and an ambulance has been called,’ Mr McInnes said.

The mother was believed to have been suffering from ‘mental health issues… manifesting as physical symptoms’.

‘She was in a somewhat distressed state (on Wednesday) afternoon and more than that I cannot say,’ Mr McInnes said.

A woman who matched the description of the mother was seen on CCTV being carried on a stretcher at the tram station before being loaded into an ambulance.

The alleged abuse only came to light when the girl wrote a note saying her mum used to ‘come in with friends and touch me improperly’, to her psychologist, who reported it to the police.

Judge Kent heard evidence over a three day judge-only trial.

On Tuesday, the girl’s father told the court she had tried to commit suicide three times after 2016.

On Monday the court heard the girl once had woken up in her bed to find she was undressed and there was an unknown man on top of her as her mum allegedly held her hands.

She later told authorities her mum would ‘undress her and be naughty’ and one day awoke to find herself wearing a ‘Playboy outfit’ with bunny ears, The Courier Mail reported.

She claimed each of the men were different during the alleged incidents, and said she had heard her mother asking the men for money.
