Good credit is the sexiest trait among online daters

A recent study conducted by Discover Financial Services and Match Media Group found that online daters view a good credit score as the sexiest trait in a potential romantic partner.

In the survey, participants were asked to rank a variety of the most popular qualities in a person by which was of most importance to them.

Financial responsibility was ranked the most important coming in with 69 percent of 2,000 votes, above sense of humor (67 percent), attractiveness (51 percent), ambition (50 percent), courage (42 percent) and modesty (39 percent).

A reliable credit score was also deemed hotter than a nice car, impressive job title and physically fit body — as surveyors believe it proves a person to also be more responsible and trustworthy.

Biological anthropologist and Match.com’s chief scientific adviser Helen Fisher, said folks find financial stability so appealing because it’s likely the quality is related to other positive personality traits that they are seeking in a lifelong partner.

‘You’re not only managing your money, you’re managing your family, your friends. You’re kind of a managing person … It says a lot more about you than a fancy car,’ she told Bloomberg.

Fisher said people who maintain their finances well are generally viewed as more ‘dependable, willing to commit and able to maintain a relationship.’

The survey showed that the larger the mismatch in a couple’s credit score when first meeting correlates to the likeliness of the relationship ending in failure.

The 'Credit Scores and Committed Relationships' chart outlined a disconnect between one pair who had scores of 660 and 730, and another with scores of 700 each

The couple with differing scores were at greater odds for a doomed relationship.

‘It can be difficult enough to find someone you’re compatible with, so to suddenly go from this emotional connection to this practical part of your brain, it can seem incredibly clinical, and you don’t want that,’ said Adam Scott, financial planner at Westside Investment Management in Santa Monica, California.

‘But if you don’t pay attention in the beginning, you aren’t building your relationship on a sound footing, and it will come back to haunt you,’ he added.

‘Being on the same basic page financially will ultimately be one of the predictors of the success of the relationship … one of the defining things, maybe even more than sex.’
