Google Pixel Watch REVEALED thanks to leaked images

Leaked images appear to show Google’s long-rumoured Pixel Watch, the first own-brand smart wearable, complete with a circular display and digital crown.

According to a report by Android Central, the images were taken by a person who found the watch, and straps, abandoned in a restaurant earlier in the year.

Google is expected to announce the watch officially at its I/O event next month, and the images appear to match the many rumours circulating over the past few months.

The images show a minimalistic design around a circular display – with a digital crown, as well as Google bands, similar to those produced for the Apple Watch.

The watch left behind in the restaurant did not include a charger, so it isn’t clear exactly how the charging process will work for the device.

It is thought that the watch featured in the leaked images was a testing model likely used by the internal Pixel team at Google, according to Android Central.

The watch was left at the restaurant ‘for a few weeks expecting the people that left it to return, but that never happened,’ before images of it were shared with the media.

Rumors have suggested that the watch, first hinted at in Google Wear code late last year, will have an Apple Watch-style rotating crown on one side.

There are also two hidden buttons next to the crown, although it isn’t clear from the images if they are actually on the watch.

Also similar to the Apple Watch, there are proprietary Google bands, designed to specifically fit this watch – and could have similar material to Apple’s sport bands.

In the pictures there are blue and black spongy bands with a semi-circular end where they attach directly to the watch case.

According to Android Central, this could mean it isn’t compatible with standard watch band types, as is the case with other Android smartwatches.

User tagtech414, writing on Reddit, claims to be the person that leaked the pictures of the watch to Android Central, and says the bands are ‘kind of a pain’ to attach.

‘Kind of a pain to attach the first time, but I imagine it would be easier after I know how to properly attach them,’ the anonymous user wrote., adding ‘they are extremely secure and don’t feel like they will easily release.

‘Most importantly, this is the most comfortable watch I’ve ever worn. It feels much thinner than the measurements would lead you to believe.’

It is likely the charging will mirror that of the Apple Watch and the Google-owned Fitbit Versa 3 – via the back of the watch case, which appears to be metallic but coated with glass.

Also on Fitbit, there is some suggestion that the Pixel watch will come with Fitbit integrations, bringing some of the smart tracking technology to the Pixel brand.

According to the source behind the leak, when they tried to boot up the watch it didn’t go beyond the Google logo startup screen – suggesting no OS is installed.

It has been built alongside the Wear OS 3 operating system, built in partnership with Samsung, suggesting it will include close integration, similar to Apple’s eco-system and as was the case with the recent Pixel phones.

Release dates and locations are unclear, and likely won’t be known until the Google I/O event on May 11 and May 12.
