Google’s most searched questions of the year include ‘how to watch Champions League final’, ‘how to watch Game of Thrones’ and ‘how to floss dance’

The most Googled questions of 2019 in Britain were ‘how to watch the Champions League final’ and ‘how to watch Game of Thrones’, the search engine has revealed.
Other top queries included ‘how to floss dance’ and ‘how to watch KSI vs Logan’, a boxing match between YouTubers Olajide Olatunji and Logan Paul last month.
The fourth most searched question was ‘how to pronounce Psalm’ – in reference to Psalm West – Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s fourth child, who was born in May.

The top ten revealed today also included political questions such as ‘how to vote in European elections’ which took place in May and ‘how to register to vote’.
Also in the list was ‘how to eat pineapple’, ‘how to tame a fox in Minecraft’ and ‘how to watch Chernobyl’ in reference to the HBO series shown on Sky Atlantic in May.
Google also revealed the top search terms in Britain over the past year, which were a mixture of sport and TV shows – including ‘Rugby World Cup’, ‘Cricket World Cup’ and ‘Game of Thrones’.
Also in the top five were ‘Chernobyl’ and ‘Thanos’, the Marvel Comics character who appeared in the film Avengers: Endgame which came out in April.
That top ten was completed by ‘Notre Dame’, which suffered a devastating fire in April, Avengers Endgame, iPhone 11, I’m A Celebrity contestant Caitlyn Jenner and the film Joker, released in April.
The California-based firm also released its top ten of most searched ‘what is…’ phrases, including ‘Area 51’, ‘the backstop’, ‘D-Day’ and ‘Finn’s Law’, after the House of Lords passed a law giving protection to service dogs and horses.
Others were ‘what is a super over in cricket’, in reference to the Cricket World Cup final in London in July which saw England beat New Zealand on boundaries scored.
Also in the list was ‘what is a dead ting’, after Amber Gill used the phrase in reference to Michael Griffiths and Joanna Chimonides on ITV reality show Love Island in June.
Further phrases were ‘what is Article 50’, which the UK invoked to begin the Brexit process in March 2017, and ‘what is Article 13’, which is part of EU copyright law.
Other people asked Google ‘what is a VSCO girl’, a term used to describe female teenagers who dress and act in a way that is identical to one another.
Kirstin Wright, a Google Trends expert: said: ‘The 2019 Year in Search lists not only reveal the most popular trends from the past 12 months, but also give insight into the biggest events in the news, politics, sports, entertainment and even the latest lingo.
‘As people continue to look for information in new and different ways, Google Search keeps evolving to make the world’s information accessible and useful to all.’
