GOP polling guru reveals Trump’s latest mistake and what women think about the former president

GOP polling expert Frank Luntz continues to slam Donald Trump’s campaign, saying he’s opened up a ‘gender chasm’ between himself and Kamala Harris. 

Luntz, dubbed ‘the Nostradamus of pollsters’, now says that Trump’s attacks on Harris have led to a recent Fox News poll showing men favoring Trump by 12 points and women preferring Harris by 10, a 22-point swing.

‘Trump is losing, is actively going out of his way, to insult his way, to this huge gender, and it’s not a gap, it’s a chasm,’ he said. 

Luntz even said that he believes ‘there are going to be divorces because of the battle between’ Trump and Harris. 

The pollster then discussed how men and women each viewed Trump and Harris through the prism of a divorce.

‘Well, the problem is that Kamala Harris reminds men of their first wife and Donald Trump reminds women of their first husband’s divorce lawyer,’ he told CNN Saturday.

Luntz continues to hammer home the message he’s been pushing on Trump for the past week: attack Harris on policy.’First, don’t insult your opponent for how they look, how they speak,’ Luntz said. 

‘Women can’t stand that. Second, they expect you to focus on the future, not on anger about the past. And that’s again, the exact opposite of what Trump is actually doing.’

Luntz said that Harris’ economic speech on Friday, agree or disagree, focused on the future and offered tangible answers to worries on the minds of voters.

‘The economy has been challenging. Inflation has clearly made lives more difficult for so many people, and that you want to you want to lean into that. You acknowledge it, you show people a solution. You give them ideas for how they can change it,’ he said.

Luntz said earlier this week that Trump is committing ‘political suicide’ as entire voting blocs have collapsed toward Kamala Harris , causing a major shift in the campaign. 

The pollster blamed the shift on Trump’s campaign choices, declaring that the former president was slipping.

Luntz said that Harris’ economic speech on Friday, agree or disagree, focused on the future and offered tangible answers to worries on the minds of voters

‘It’s as though he’s lost control,’ Luntz fumed. ‘And I know that there are billionaires who watch this show who are spending a lot of money on Donald Trump, and they don’t understand why he’s committing political suicide.’

Toward the beginning of the interview, Ross Sorkin observed that ‘polls in the presidential race showing Vice President Harris gaining ground in some swing states and even eroding some of the former President Trump’s lead in Florida.’

He continued: ‘Our next guest says if the election were held today, she would win.’

Ross Sorkin, visibly amazed, quipped: ‘That’s a turn.’

‘It’s more than that,’ Luntz answered. 

‘That’s a plot twist,’ Ross Sorkin joked. 

‘She’s bringing out people who are not interested in voting for either Trump or Biden. So the entire electoral pool has changed,’ the veteran pollster said. 

Luntz went on to explain how if things remained this way, the Democrats could win more than the White House. They could also take the Senate and the House.

While Trump appeared set to cruise in many purple states against Joe Biden, polling has shown Harris gaining ground in some states and leading in others.

The latest polling average from Real Clear Politics shows that Harris has a one point lead over Trump. 

In the betting averages that lead is higher at about eight percentage points.

In one recent example, Harris was more trusted on the economy than Trump – marking a big shift in voter sentiment following Biden’s decision to drop out. 

The survey, for the Financial Times and the Ross School of Business, found that Harris had a 1-point advantage. It is the first time a Democrat presidential candidate has led Trump on the economy since the poll started tracking voter sentiment on the issue almost a year ago.

However, in a DailyMail.com poll published earlier this week, the former president still holds a two-point lead over the new Democratic nominee.

Where other recent polls show the vice president surging ahead, our survey of 1001 likely voters found that 43 percent would vote for Trump if the election were tomorrow, compared with 41 percent who would vote for Harris.

With a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percent it sets the stage for a nail-biter of an election in November.

Harris was catapulted into the race after Biden announced last month that he was giving up his reelection campaign.

Trump insiders were initially jubilant, expecting weeks of Democratic infighting. But the party quickly rallied around the vice president and will show a united front at its convention in Chicago next week.

The result has been a series of polls showing that Harris has overturned, or at least reined in, Trump’s clear poll lead.

The first presidential debate between the two is set to be held in Philadelphia on September 10 and will be moderated by ABC News. 

The first vice presidential debate between Democratic Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota and Republican Sen. JD Vance of Ohio will take place on October 1 in New York City, and will be hosted by CBS.
