Andrew Keir, 67 is facing charges of using lewd and libidinous conduct and conducting himself in a disorderly manner while teaching at a £36,000-a-year school previously attended by Prince Charles
A teacher at Prince Charles’s old school stripped off and chased naked pupils around a darkened swimming pool, a court heard yesterday.
Andrew Keir is on trial accused of a string of indecent offences and disorderly conduct against children in the late 1980s and 90s at Gordonstoun.
It is also alleged the 67-year-old showered naked and made explicit remarks in front of three young teenage boys at the school in Moray, which was once described by Charles as ‘Colditz in kilts’ due to its reputation for a strict regime.
Prosecutors say the incidents took place on the 150-acre estate near Elgin between 1988 and 1992.
Elgin Sheriff Court heard yesterday from one of the young boys, who is now in his 40s.
The witness, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said Keir, who was physics teacher at the £36,000-a-year school between 1983 and 1994, took him and several others to the school pool on an ‘unofficial’ evening swimming trip when he was in his first year, either in 1988 or 1989.
The court heard claims that Keir initiated ‘skinny dipping’, turning off the lights before chasing the boys around the darkened pool in the sports complex and pulling off their trunks.
Witnesses said Keir, who was also an assistant house master for one of the school houses, was also naked.
Keir also faces a charge of indecent assault by touching two of the boys inappropriately Elgin Sheriff Court heard
One former pupil told the court that the group all showered naked in the changing rooms, while there was talk of a sexual nature. He said: ‘There was some mention of skinny dipping. It was initiated by Mr Keir.
‘I saw him taking his trunks off. He was chasing us and I believe my trunks were ripped off. This all took place inside the pool. My next memory is going into the showers. We all had a shower without our trunks on.’
The witness said he left two other teenage boys in the shower with Mr Keir, and that their discussion turned explicit.
The former physics teacher from Gordonstoun in Elgin, Scotland has been accused of historic indecent assault during his time at the school where he allegedly ‘stripped off and chased naked pupils around a swimming pool’
He added: ‘I remember it being very unusual in terms of talking about that with a member of staff. I remember it feeling inappropriate.’
The witness said he and the boys felt that they needed to tell someone, so approached the school chaplain several days later, but nothing ever came of their allegations.
The man said: ‘What I recall is that it was played down and there was quite a long time when we were waiting for something to happen and it didn’t.’
Asked under cross examination by Susan Duff, QC, if his memory could be wrong or warped by time, the witness replied: ‘I can be certain that we did go skinny dipping and it was with Mr Keir.’
A second male witness who gave evidence recalled the same incident involving ‘three, maybe four boys’ from the school in which they were playing a game of tag or something similar in the pool lit only by moonlight.
The man, also in his 40s, said: ‘I think there was a suggestion by Mr Keir that the activity would be more fun with the lights off.

‘Mr Keir switched the lights off, took his trunks off and got into the pool with the boys who all had taken their trunks off, and chased us around the pool.’
Breaking down in tears, the witness told the court that Keir then grabbed him, ‘pushed his face against his’ and felt the teacher’s exposed privates against his leg.
He added: ‘I remember his stubbly bristle on my face.’
The second witness said he came forward to police after reading media coverage of similar allegations of abuse at other schools.
The second witness admitted that there were several inconsistencies with his version of events compared to what he told police back in 2015, including a lack of detail that he now put down to going through therapy.
Keir is accused of using lewd and libidinous conduct and conducting himself in a disorderly manner by exposing himself and making sexual remarks to three teen-agers. He also faces a charge of indecent assault by touching two of the boys inappropriately.
Keir, of Cheshire, denies the charges against him.
The trial before Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov continues.
