A grandfather raped his four-year-old granddaughter twice with his crime discovered only when the girl told her grandmother she had ‘seen grandpa’s doodle’.

The grey-haired, balding granddad from Queensland’s Gold Coast was also found guilty of indecently touching the child on two other occasions.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denied he hurt the girl or had intercourse with her.

In the two-day trial at the Southport District Court, a tape was played of a phone conversation between the man and his wife of 43 years.

‘I was just touching her and playing and you know mucking around and grabbed her and stuff like that,’ the man said, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.

The sexual assault only came to light after the girl told her other grandmother she had ‘seen grandpa’s doodle’.

The little girl’s mother then questioned her, but her daughter would not say what had happened until a year later.

The court heard the grandfather raped the four-year-old girl in a bathroom while caring for her, and had sexual contact with her on two other occasions.

The grandfather, dressed in jeans, showed no reaction when the jury of eight women and four men handed down their verdict yesterday.

They found him guilty of two counts of indecent treatment of a child and two counts of rape.

He was found not guilty of a third count of rape and will be sentenced next week.
