CCTV footage showed the victim sitting in a car park while taking a cigarette break when the two men circled him and began to threaten him.

The victim’s son Patrick said he was outraged at the attack on his father.

‘I mean how much of a disgusting human being do you need to be to do something like that?’ he told Yahoo News.

‘His whole life he’s just been working for his family – keeps to himself, doesn’t bother anyone, everyone loves him.’

Patrick said his father may never be able to work again.

Thousands of dollars have been donated to the cleaner as he recovers from his injuries.

Patrick said the generosity shown by others had been ‘so overwhelming’.

‘We didn’t expect it in the slightest,’ he said.

In the CCTV footage, a man was seen giving the other a rock before he threw it at the victim’s face from about one metre away.

The cleaner lost consciousness and slumped to the ground while the attackers stole his wallet, phone and cigarettes before they fled in an allegedly stolen car.

They have yet to be found by police, but the Ford was discovered abandoned the following morning.

‘We deserve as a community to not have people [like this] walking around. Please, if you know anything come forward so justice can be done,’ Patrick said.

Lee Cotton from Westside Auto Wholesale described the attack as ‘shocking’ and said the cleaner did not need to be assaulted.

‘He’s a veteran of cleaning of 35 years, he is quite concerned to work nights again because he doesn’t know what could happen again,’ Mr Cotton said.

Police released a CCTV image on Wednesday of a man at a petrol station about an hour after the attack.

They believe he can assist with their investigation into the assault.

‘Cannington Detectives wish to speak to the man pictured as he may have information about a robbery in Bentley in which a 60-year-old man was struck with a rock and his property stolen,’ police said in a statement.
