Grandma’s revenge is a cocktail created by AI – would YOU try it?

Artificial intelligence has created an alcoholic beverage that tastes like the melted candy found at the bottom of your grandma’s handbag – and it got a three out of 10 in taste.

This drink, called Grandma’s Revenge, is just one recipe generated by the technology, which was asked to make cocktails based on names given by TikTok users.

Grandma’s Revenge features brandy, sherry and port, while another called Burning Inferno is made with vodka and Tabasco sauce.

TikTok account Mob recently shared videos showing him following the instructions to make each drink based on what the AI churned out.

TikTok account Mob shared two videos showing cocktails generated by AI. The user asked the AI to provide ingredients and instructions to make a drink named Grandma’s Revenge

AI was developed to improve our daily lives. It is used in self-driving cars, power chatbots, develop new medicines and now, the technology is helping people mix up unique cocktails.

Mob, which has 1.2 million followers, asked the AI to make an alcoholic beverage off a name he gave.

‘Create me a cocktail recipe based on the name Burning Inferno,’ the TikToker shared in one of the videos.

And in seconds, the AI-generated the ingredients and instructions to make the vodka-based drink.

This drink needs line juice, simple syrup, triple sec, Tabasco sauce and four slices of jalapenos.

The AI instructed the TikToker to fill a shaker with ice and add the ingredients – except for the jalapenos.

Then he was told to mix the ingredients well, strain the liquid into a rocks glass filled with ice and garnish with the jalapenos.

‘That is good. I am going to give this a nine-and-a-half out of ten,’ the TikToker said after taking a sip of the yellow-ish colored beverage.

During the video, the TikToker said he would ask the AI to make a drink someone suggested in the comments – Grandma’s Revenge.

This drink features brandy, sherry, port, lime juice, lavender syrup, dashes of angostura bitters, butterscotch liqueur and a lavender spring as the garnish.

The AI’s instructions read: ‘ Add the brandy, sherry and port to a shaker filled with ice.

‘Shake vigorously for 20 seconds until well-chilled. Add the lime juice, lavender syrup and angostura bitters and stir to combine.

‘Float the butterscotch liqueur on top. Garnish with a lavender sprig and serve.’

However, Grandma’s Revenge left a bitter taste in the TikToker’s mouth, who gave it a three out of 10.

While asking AI to generate cocktail ingredients will not replace bartenders, AI-powered robtots that make the mixed drinks could.

A robotic bartender named Cecilia – which can pour 120 drinks an hour and crack a few bad jokes – was unveiled in February 2022.

The seven-foot-tall interactive robot can speak 40 languages and has various features including an ID scanner, is currently residing at the Florida International University’s Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management in Miami to teach hospitality students about the industry.

To use Cecilia, customers can verbally request their order or use a touchscreen menu to choose from a variety of cocktails which comes out of a slot in the machine.

The robot can respond with the options available or even suggesting an alternative for customers.

‘The idea of a robot bartender replacing human mixologists is ‘not even close to reality,” Brian Connors, director of the Bacardi Center for Excellence and an FIU hospitality professor, told the Miami Herald.

‘This is a defined mix of high tech and high touch hospitality. In this industry, we are always going to be people first. This is a team sport.’
