He battled the highly publicised painkiller addiction after breaking his back during a freak monster-truck accident in 2008.

The crash left Grant with a vertebrae that was shattered in 11 pieces, and doctors feared he might never walk again.

Speaking on the podcast, the television presenter said one of the scariest things that happened to him while taking opioids was vanishing in Sydney’s CBD.

His wife, Chezzi, spent hours looking for him after he wandered off into the night in Chinatown wearing nothing but underwear.

‘I wanted some scotch one night, for whatever reason, and just went wandering around town in my undies, got lost in the fire escape on the way back to the apartment,’ he said.

‘I did not know where my apartment was and fell asleep in the fire escape. It took Chez three or four hours to find me.’

Grant went on to say that he would hallucinate that people were breaking into his house and sexually assaulting Chez, and that his wife ‘has PTSD’ from the experience of caring for him during that time.

‘When you are under the influence of that kind of power of medication and in that much pain, when you close your eyes at night you go into your worst nightmares immediately and it is every night,’ he said.

‘When you wake up you can’t differentiate what was real and what wasn’t’.

In 2014, Grant attended a wellness centre in Thailand which specialises in the treatment of PTSD and exhaustion.
