Grant Denyer reveals Deal Or No Deal’s biggest change as he prepares to host revamped version of the game show

It was the tea-time favourite for a generation of Australians.

And now Channel 10 is set to launch a reboot of famed game show Deal or No Deal on Monday January 29 with Grant Denyer as host.

But the former Sunrise weatherman, 46, has revealed that fans can expect one big change to the format.

The revamped Deal or No Deal will no longer feature a line-up of glamorous models, a role etched in history after the future Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle served as one such model between 2006 and 2007.

Instead it will be the contestants who open the the show’s signature briefcases.

Meanwhile, Grant explained to TV Tonight on Friday that the show has been cut from an hour to thirty-minutes.

‘We’ve reduced the amount of cases from 26 to 22 to accommodate that, allow a little bit more room for it to breathe and just be a bit more playful,’ Grant said in the interview.

He continued: ‘There’s a bit more heart and humanity in there. It’s kind of surprised me actually. I was expecting it to be good, but I wasn’t expecting it to be great and I’m bloody loving it.’

Originally screening on Channel Seven, Deal or No Deal was axed in 2014, after running for a decade.

Debuting in 2003, Deal or No Deal was hosted by Andrew O’Keefe, who has since had a very public battle with drug addiction.

He’s also made court appearances recently on domestic violence matters.

Deal or No Deal, meanwhile, became a popular fixture on Australian television for more than a decade, with O’Keefe rising to celebrity status, including hosting Seven’s Weekend Sunrise.

At its peak in 2007-2008, the guessing game regularly pulled in 900,000 viewers.

Based on a Dutch format the quiz has contestants guess on the contents of boxes or briefcases containing a cash prize.

In the original version of Seven’s Deal or No Deal models ‘hosted’ the briefcases and opened them for contestants.

Probably the most famous of the so-called ‘briefcase girls’ launched by the format is Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, 42, who appeared on the U.S. Deal or No Deal between 2006 and 2007.

The now wife of Prince Harry, Meghan, 42, was then working as a model.
