He’s the hunky pop star-turned professional swimmer. 

And as Cody Simpson continues to pursue his dream to swim at the Olympic Paris Games in 2024, former Aussie athlete Grant Hackett has predicted the 24-year-old ‘will do well!’

In a segment on Weekend Today with Richard Wilkins and Leila McKinnon, Grant was joined by fellow swimmer Giaan Rooney, as they commented on the young star’s commitment to the sport.

‘I think Cody will go very well,’ Grant, 41, said of Cody.

Despite undertaking an impressive training schedule, Grant said fans might be confused as Cody is focused on Paris 2024, not the preliminaries. 

‘People are getting a little bit confused thinking he might go to Tokyo after 12 months of training – which is pretty much impossible even if you’re a Michael Phelps,’ Grant said.

He did however admit Cody’s ‘rapid rate of improvement has been unbelievable.’

According to the former Olympic swimmer, an athlete must swim 56 seconds for 100m butterfly.

‘He is already going 53 seconds after less than 12 months of training. To qualify for the team would been 51 flat,’ he said.

Regardless, Grant added that he thought Cody was a ‘phenomenal athlete’ who is one to watch come 2024.   

Grant’s comments comes after the 24-year-old Olympic hopeful spoke about his training with GQ Sports, and admitted to a complete lifestyle change.

‘Few years ago I used to go to bed at 5am, now I get up at 5am,’ the hunky blond said on Thursday.

Cody revealed he now eats a high protein diet, in order to fuel his body before hitting the pool. 

‘I start abruptly with a 5am alarm and make a wrap with peanut butter and banana,’ he said, explaining his quick breakfast.  

Cody said he has to be in the water by 6am, doing four hours in the pool most days. He also does 60 to 90 minutes in the gym, three times a week.

The singer said after practice he usually has a protein shake along with avocado on toast, and also tries to eat a lot of fish.

‘I love to eat fish and veggies to get healthy protein and carbs… [And] a slow-burning carb that will last me throughout the night,’ he explained. 

Cody said he has upped his intake of food, eating three to four times more than he did prior to Olympic training. 

He said he tried to eat a lot of ‘plant-based and pescatarian’ foods.  

Turning his attention to his body, Cody said it has changed with him putting on a lot of muscle mass due to training.
