The beasts sneak up beneath their unsuspecting target before suddenly propelling themselves with such force that they jump straight out of the water.

The footage, filmed at dawn, shows the shark forcing its whole body out of the water against a beautiful orange morning sky.

‘I happened to be in the right place at the right time,’ said Dan Abbott, who captured the clip. ‘We were out there that morning for an hour and a half but, here’s the thing, there was only one breach.

‘To do these trips you have to get up quite early.

‘Great white sharks are ambush predators and their most successful time of hunting is before the sun rises.’

Dan and his team from Shark Video Channel towed a fake seal made out of a wet suit behind the boat to get the predator’s attention.

The cameraman added that he was very pleased with the result.

‘There’s probably nothing in nature that is quite as spectacular as a shark breaching out of the water,’ he said.
