One of the greatest fights in the history of British MMA went down at PFL Europe on Saturday night.

On the main card of PFL Europe 3 Lewis McGrillen and Dean Garnett faced off in a bantamweight clash at the OVO Hydro Arena in Glasgow.

Both fighters have earned a reputation as some of the most promising 135 lbs prospects on the British scene but few could have predicted just how electrifying their clash would be when they met inside the cage.

After the opening bell the two fighters wasted little time in engaging with Garnett dropping his opponent with a chopping inside leg kick.

McGrillen, who has trained alongside former PFL champion Brendan Loughnane at Manchester Top Team, responded emphatically by dropping his opponent with an inch-perfect southpaw left hand.

The 22-year-old continued to press the action but narrowly escaped being submitted at the end of the first round after Garnett locked up a tight guillotine choke.

As the action resumed for the second round the frantic pace set in the first only increased with both men scoring knockdowns but refusing to give in inch.

Garnett marched forward to start the third, pushing his opponent against the cage before McGrillen connected with a perfectly-timed counter that sent him crashing face-first into the canvas.

After a total of 14 knockdowns, McGrillen earned the victory less than two minutes into the third round.

The showdown was an instant classic with both fighters coming close to securing victory on several occasions and proved to be a hit with fans and fighters alike on social media.

One wrote: ‘This is unreal, both fighters just biting down on the mouthpiece and going for the knockout. Pure fighting.’

Flyweight prospect Kiru Sahota added: ‘Gotta be the greatest fight in UKMMA history. Best scrap I’ve seen live.’

Another fan agreed: ‘Crazy fight , I almost missed the Bryan Battle fight because this was the best fight I have seen all year. Insanity from both fighters.’
