A woman may have lived with her husband’s decomposing corpse in the hallway of their home for as long as eight weeks.

The 58-year-old woman from Greenfields in Western Australia is believed to have mental health problems, and had not accepted her partner’s death.

Police found the body of the 56-year-old man on Wednesday, and he is understood to have had serious health issues.

The woman was taken to the Peel Health Campus and found to be in poor condition, WA Today reported.

Police believe neighbours were contacted once the wife had accepted the reality of her husband’s death.

A worried neighbour then called officers to the home on Murdoch Drive in Mandurah, according to The West Australian.

It is unknown how the man died but detectives declared the property a crime scene and were spotted removing evidence from the home.

Police protection was then removed from the house and put a bio-hazard warning in place.

Recent hot weather has made it difficult for a forensic pathologist who examined the man’s body to pin-point how long he had been deceased.

His death is not being considered as suspicious, but the woman has been questioned about why she did not call the authorities earlier.

An autopsy will be performed.
