Grieving mother pays tribute to her ‘metalhead’ son, 19

A grieving mother has paid tribute to her ‘metalhead’ son who died with his girlfriend after going missing on the way to a Halloween party.

Charlie Eccleston, 19, and Zaiga Gravenieks, 20, were found dead on Sunday, five days after they vanished.

Their bodies were discovered in woodland near Shenley, Hertfordshire, after police launched a massive search for them.

Paying tribute to her son, Charlie’s mother Jo Eccleston, 40, said: ‘He was a real metal head.

‘He created a band, he’s been making music since he was 14-years-old.

‘He picked up the guitar the first time when he was 14 and quickly he could pretty much play anything, he was amazing, he really was.

‘First it was black metal, then doom metal and now it’s sludge/stoner metal.’

Long-haired Charlie, also known as Chazz Fenrir, played in a local rock band called Dessert Smoker, who released an album at the end of September.

Ms Ecclestone, who managed his band, announced she will re-release her son’s EP, ‘Void of Smoke’ to honour to his musical talent, next month.

She said: ‘It’s to honour him, he deserves recognition for all the work he did and he may not be here to see the recognition but he still deserves it nonetheless.’

She said the pair had been together for three years and added: ‘They were both amazing people and they loved each other more than anything.

‘They were perfect for each other.’

Charlie was due to go on tour in the UK with his best friend, bandmate and producer, Shea Janne Mckay, in the New Year.

Jo, who would not comment on the circumstances of the deaths, also wrote on Facebook: ‘We all need to remember that, although they are no longer with us, Chazz and Ziggi died together and will always remain together, which is the way it should be.

‘Neither were alone and their love will remain for eternity.’

A friend of Charlie’s, Jack Helliwell, of St Albans, Herts., wrote on Facebook: ‘I miss you c**** so f***ing much.

‘I hope you two are happy now, you were such great friends.

‘There’s too much to say, I just want to hug you both. I’m so sorry..

‘Just want my friends back.’

A Hertfordshire Police spokeswoman confirmed the couple’s deaths were not being treated as suspicious and said a file was being prepared for the coroner.
