A man has been accused of the murder of his best friend at his wedding in 2018.

Christopher Jerome Sterling, 43, has been arrested for obstruction of justice and accessory after the fact for second degree murder.

Byron Jenkins, 36, died after being shot in January  2018.

Another guest at the wedding, a 23-year-old woman was also shot in the shoulder and sustained non-life threatening injuries in the shooting.

According to police, Sterling was holding his ‘wedding after-party’ at the Sterling and Sterling Detail Shop when the incident occurred at around 3am.

Jenkins had been his best man at Sterling’s ceremony just hours earlier.

Although Sterling is not accused of carrying out the shooting himself, he is alleged to have told police that his surveillance camera system was not working at the time of the shooting. He also denied seeing what happened.

Police spoke with 18 people who were present at the party following the incident for their accounts, however it wasn’t long before detectives soon received tips that the surveillance cameras were in fact working.

Sterling is alleged to  have removed the DVR recorder in order to protect the identity of the gunman reports WAFB.

Almost 18 months after the shooting, police finally managed to obtain pictures of Jenkins inside the building, minutes before his death.
