The in-laws from hell! Groom’s parents book a vacation at the SAME resort as the honeymooning newlyweds – then INSIST on doing joint activities and eating every meal together
- A Redditor said her new in-laws treated her and her husband to a week-long stay at a resort
- When they showed up on the first day, they found that her in-laws were staying there, too
- The in-laws wanted to spend most of the trip together and would knock on their door at 6 a.m.
- When the groom accused them of intruding, his parents said they paid for the trip and had every right to be there
- The couple ended up escaping late at night to stay in another hotel in a different town — without telling the groom’s parents
A pair of honeymooners were grateful when the groom’s parents treated them to a week-long honeymoon at a resort — but were quickly less than thrilled when they learned his parents were staying there at the same time.
A woman from Bristol posting as u/honeymoonfromhell on Reddit last week said that at first, she and her new husband were thrilled with the free honeymoon.
But when they got there, they discovered that her in-laws were also spending the week at the hotel, and expected all four of them spend most of the trip together, eating their meals as a group.

The Redditor posed while still on the honeymoon as she and her husband figured out what to do.
‘My husband and I are on our honeymoon,’ she wrote, two days into the trip. ‘His parents gifted us a week in an all inclusive hotel at no cost to us as a wedding gift, and we were really grateful.
‘On arriving we found out that they’d also booked a room at this hotel for themselves for the whole week and want to do group things.’
‘It’s not like they’re in the room next door or anything, and we can still do stuff in our room alone. But they knock on our door regularly, waking us up at 6am, making us get all 3 meals a day with them.’
The bride added that they only usually see her husband’s parents two or three times a year, and they don’t really like her.
‘We’ve tried telling them we wanted “alone time” for our honeymoon and they shrugged us off saying that’s what our room is for.
‘We also tried faking illness to get out of eating with them and they just got room service to our room and sat with us while we faked stomach aches.’
Luckily, the groom his just as annoyed with the stunt his parents pulled, and finally got to a point where he ‘snapped,’ telling him they were ‘way over the line’ and ‘had no right intruding on our honeymoon, of all things.’
‘They told us that they paid for this whole thing and that as adults we’re allowed to take holidays at the same time to the same place.’
The couple was miserable enough that they decided to leave. The bride said that they’d saved up enough to pay for their own honeymoon, and had been planning to do so when his parents surprised them.
They decided to take a late-night train to a nearby town by themselves for the remaining three days of their honeymoon — and made sure not to tell her in-laws before they left.
