The discovery of human remains in a vegetable patch behind a home in suburban Melbourne has sparked an urgent police investigation.

The body of a 53-year-old man was found in the garden of a home on McLeans Road in Bundoora, in the city’s northeast, about 9.45am on Thursday.

The local had been missing for over a month before the grisly discovery by officers, who had received a tip-off.

Forensics were seen at the single-storey home on Thursday with gardening equipment including shovels on the front lawn.

The man was reported missing on April 2 and was last seen in Bundoora.

Victoria Police said a 51-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man are assisting police with their enquiries. All parties are said to be known to each other.

The circumstances of the man’s death are yet to be determined.

Locals expressed concern at the grisly discovery at the home, which is positioned between a primary school and a kindergarten.
