Sir Elton John was pictured with Pep Guardiola on Saturday ahead of Watford’s home Premier League encounter with Manchester City, and he may well have been seeking answers in the sky after the first 45 minutes.

The renowned international music legend met up with the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss prior to kick-off in the tunnel, and the pair exchanged some warm words.

But City were strolling towards victory thanks to three first-half goals with Gabriel Jesus adding to a Sergio Aguero brace to put Guardiola’s side firmly in control.

Sir Elton was joined by his partner David Furnish and their children Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John and Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John as they arrived at the ground.

The international superstar gushed over Guardiola, but he will hope his Watford side give a much better account on themselves than on the Catalan’s last visit to Vicarage Road.

City recorded a comfortable 5-0 win over the Hornets on the final day of last season as the club sealed an automatic place in the Champions League, and the side are fresh from their biggest away win in Europe.

John Stones scored twice in the resounding 4-0 victory over Feyenoord during the week, and Raheem Sterling came close to breaking the deadlock early on when he failed to convert from Kevin de Bruyne’s sublime through-ball.

Richarlison came closest for the hosts after 20 minutes, but he could not adjust his footing to head from Jose Holebas’ cross with only keeper Ederson standing in his way.

Moments later, City took full advantage as De Bruyne’s delivery was perfect for Sergio Aguero to score his seventh goal in five games against Watford.

Those figures became eight in five as the Argentine was on hand to provide a simple finish 31 minutes in after Heurelho Gomes had palmed Gabriel Jesus’ shot into his path.

Watford’s afternoon went from bad to worse as Jesus then got in on the act, as he received a cut-back from Aguero to slide the ball past Gomes.
