Gunfight breaks out between NYPD officers and robbers outside a club in NYC’s upscale Chelsea neighborhood

- A bouncer reportedly contacted police after the suspects tried to rob someone and they began shooting when officers tried to intervene

A gunfight broke out between NYPD officers and robbers outside of a New York City club early Friday morning.
Police officers were notified of a suspected robbery at Club Doux, located in the city’s upscale Chelsea neighborhood, by a bouncer around 3am on Friday.
When plainclothes officers wearing NYPD windbreakers arrived on scene, the robbers allegedly opened fire.
Officers shot back at the suspects, who then fled in a silver Audi sedan westbound toward West 21st Street and 7th Avenue. They were last seen wearing black hoodies, police said.
There was multiple partiers in the street at the time of the shootout. One of the bullets struck an Uber, however no injuries were reported.
No arrests have been made as of Friday afternoon.

The Chelsea street where the club is located was also the location of a July 18 shooting that injured a man and struck a police cruiser.
The victim of the shooting was found conscious and alert. The suspect fled the scene. It is unknown if he was apprehended.
The Friday morning shooting comes as New York City has seen an increase in crime in recent years.
July 18 turned out to be a major night for criminals, as nine other crimes took place throughout the five boroughs, leaving two dead and 12 injured.
Overall crime and robbery is up a shocking 39 percent. Rape and assault are also up 11 and 19 percent, respectively.

The shooting occurred in Manhattan’s upscale Chelsea neighborhood, and on the same street as another shooting that took place earlier this month
New York City Mayor Eric Adams, 61, has promised New Yorkers time and time again that he will crack down on crime, and even ran his election campaign on it.
A few weeks ago, he promised citizens again, stating: ‘We’re going to turn this crime thing around, and when we do so, people are going to really see the progress we’ve made in other parts of the city.’
He also went on to blame the city’s criminal justice system for the increase in violence.
‘It is unfortunate the climate we’re working under … where the entire criminal-justice apparatus has turned away from the public and the rights of the public to live safe in their city,’ he said. ‘We took almost 3,800 guns off the streets, and many of the people who had carried those guns were able to return to the streets.’
The Supreme Court also struck down NYC’s gun laws last month, overturning a 108-year-old law that required New Yorkers to have a ‘proper cause’ to carry a concealed weapon.
The 6-3 ruling on Thursday reversed a lower court’s opinion, which had upheld the law restricting licenses to carry concealed weapons in public only to those demonstrating ‘proper cause.’
Justice Clarence Thomas delivered the majority opinion, writing that the New York law prevented law-abiding citizens from exercising their Second Amendment rights.
New York is not alone in severely limiting who can get a license to carry a concealed weapon in public, and the new ruling will likely make it easier to legally carry a gun in major cities including Los Angeles, Boston and Baltimore.
Crime has skyrocketed in New York City over the past couple of years. So far this year, crime is up 36 percent compared to the same time last year
