Guy Sebastian admits he’s not sure if he ate BAT in Wuhan

Australian singer Guy Sebastian has admitted that he’s not sure if he ate bat or not, during his trip to Wuhan, China, late last year.

Speaking to Hit’s Hughesy and Ed on Friday, the 38-year-old said that he ate ‘the most rancid stuff’ while overseas.

It comes after Guy was forced to deny that he was Australia’s ‘patient zero’ for coronavirus, after travelling to the city and falling ill with pneumonia-like symptoms.

‘I tried the most rancid stuff!’ Guy Sebastian admitted on Hit’s Hughesy and Ed on Friday that he’s not sure if he ate BAT in Wuhan… after being forced to deny he was Australia’s patient zero for COVID-19

Guy made the admission when speaking about a video of himself that he posted to Instagram in November, where he tried out local delicacies in the city.

‘I mean, it’s not a massive feed is it,’ Guy said in the clip, as he looked at some food on a stick.

Speaking on the radio show, Guy said that he ‘pretty much ate everything while I was over there.’

‘Mate I’m eating the most rancid stuff, like frog legs and all sorts of weird stuff. Mate, I’ll try anything once,’ he said.

‘That was in the start of November, which is pretty much when it started,’ he said.

Guy said that in December he developed a cough and fever, and doctors said he had either bronchitis or pneumonia. He said he had two rounds of antibiotics.

‘In hindsight, I’m looking back after being in Wuhan at a festival,’ Guy said, before one of the hosts interrupted and said that he ‘ate bat.’

Guy continued, saying: ‘I don’t think I ate bat, I definitely didn’t intentionally eat bat. But then I get pneumonia-like symptoms.’

Guy then said that he soon asked his local doctor if he could get tested for a coronavirus antibody, but they said that you can’t get tested for antibodies.

It comes after the singer insisted that he was not ‘patient zero’ for coronavirus in Australia.

The star is convinced he caught COVID-19 during his trip to Wuhan, before the global health crisis emerged.

But on Saturday, he told The Advertiser that he ‘didn’t start coronavirus’ and laughed off the claims.

The talk emerged, albeit jokingly, after Guy told the Kyle And Jackie O Show that he developed flu-like symptoms after visiting the city to play at a music festival in November last year.

‘I was patient zero so I already got [coronavirus] ages ago, when I was in Wuhan,’ the father-of-two nonchalantly said.

While Guy said he can’t confirm that he actually had COVID-19, he did develop symptoms of virus including ‘a bit of a cough and a cold’ immediately after coming home from Wuhan.

‘I sort of self-diagnosed that I had it,’ The Voice judge explained.

It came after an Instagram photo shared by Guy during his stay in Wuhan went viral earlier this year.

Posing on the street alongside an elderly man, Guy wrote in the caption: ‘Loved hanging out today in Wuhan, China. Ate some seriously interesting things (more to come about that) and met some beautiful people.’

According to the South China Morning Post, the first recorded case of COVID-19 in Wuhan was on November 17, weeks after Guy’s picture was taken.

There are a number of unproven theories surrounding the origins of the virus, including that it came from a lab in China, it came from a Chinese wet market and that it originated in bats.
