Gwyneth Paltrow pays moving tribute to her ex Matthew Perry as she reminisces about how they ‘kissed in a field of long grass’ during ‘magical summer’ before Friends aired

Gwyneth Paltrow has recalled the romantic moment she shared with ex Matthew Perry as she joined the many celebrities in paying tribute to the star following his death at age 54.  

The Oscar winner, 51, recalled kissing him ‘in a field of long grass’ during a ‘magical summer’ they shared shortly before he catapulted to fame on Friends. 

‘I met Matthew Perry in 1993 at the Williamstown Theater Festival in Massachusetts,’ she recalled. ‘We were both there for most of the summer doing plays.’

The Emma star remembered him as ‘so funny and so sweet and so much fun to be with,’ as she intimated their relationship was more than friendly.

‘We drove out to swim in creeks, had beers in the local college bar, kissed in a field of long grass,’ she revealed, adding, ‘It was a magical summer.’

Gwyneth wrote that at the time of their meeting the actor had already shot the pilot for Friends, but the show that would become an international sensation had not aired yet. 

‘He was nervous, hoping his big break was just around the corner. It was.’

The Shakespeare in Love star said, ‘We stayed friends for a while until we drifted apart, but I was always happy to see him when I did.’

‘I am super sad today, as so many of us are. I hope Matthew is at peace at long last. I really do.’
