Gymgoers shocked to see Magpies star intensely training just three days after Grand Final win: ‘He’s been running since Sunday morning’

  • Collingwood defeated Brisbane Lions in AFL Grand Final on Saturday
  • Celebrated their premiership on the following Monday
  • One dedicated player was spotted back in training on Tuesday

While most AFL players are holidaying, partying or spending time with friends and family after a long season one Collingwood player is already putting in the extras.

Magpies defender Isaac Quaynor has been spotted in a Melbourne gym hard at work on the treadmill just three days after the Grand Final win over Brisbane on Saturday.

The 23-year-old has cemented his place in the Collingwood backline over the last three seasons and recorded his best year to date as the ‘Pies surged to the premiership.

Quaynor did take some time to let his hair down, dressing as F1 superstar Lewis Hamilton for the club’s Mad Monday celebration.

However on Tuesday he was spotted back in intense training, with the TikTok user who posted the footage with the caption ‘this guy not win a premiership three days ago?’.

The TikTok user, with the handle @daicosdelight, then turned the camera on himself with a shocked expression and said ‘what?’.

Some followers said the practice was not uncommon in professional sport, with some athletes preferring to maintain their fitness base rather than re-build it during a grueling pre-season.

‘It’s easier to continue the fitness then having a 3 month break and having to do restart a entire preseason to get back to that fitness level,’ one posted.

‘Maintaining much easier that gaining,’ said another.

‘That’s discipline, knowing what’s important,’ another admiring fan posted.

Others thought the work ethic of Quaynor was a good sign for Collingwood supporters daring to dream of going back-to-back in 2024.

‘Back to back next year, a dynasty is coming,’ one posted.

‘Back to back baby! Hanging for next season,’ added another.

‘He’s playing well, keeping his place in the side, plenty of sacrifice to play at top level, maybe another premiership 2024,’ posted another.

The footage comes after Quaynor admitted ahead of the grand final showdown with Brisbane that he had been upstaged by Lions star Charlie Cameron.

Cameron would go on to kick three goals in the decider as well, leaving Quaynor determined to have his measure in 2024.

‘I think what we’ve done the first two times, which hasn’t worked, is I’ve had a bit more of a direct match-up on him,’ Quaynor said.

‘Although it hurts my ego, he’s got me good a couple of times. Just making sure we play our system, I’m sure that’ll work itself out.

‘We play system defence so I think there’ll be a few boys who will roll through and play on him at times.
