Gypsea Lust Do You Travel share before and after images

They are the travelling couples who make an enviable living capturing perfect snaps at the world’s most exotic locations.

And Australian blogger Lauren Bullen, 24, aka Gypsea Lust and her British boyfriend Jack Morris, 26, aka Do You Travel, have shared the comparison photographs of their before and after editing.

Transforming sombre scenes into stunning landscapes, the adventurous pair – who earn a six-figure salary to travel the world – revealed the reality behind their idyllic and beautifully framed wanderlust images.

With bright skies, sparkling white beaches and crystal-clear waters, the couple showcased the difference between the real and heavily edited photos on their joint Instagram account.

Blogging under Do You Travel, Jack revealed his editing secrets to getting the perfect vibrant snaps – and he avoids Instagram filters at all cost.

‘I edit all my photos in the same kind of style with my own Lightroom presets so I guess they all look somewhat similar because of that,’ he said.

‘I also look at the grid and try to plan the next image to make sure it works well with the rest of my recent feed.

‘I don’t use any mobile apps or filters, I edit using Lightroom on my Macbook Pro. If a photo looks a little dark or contrast, I sometimes tweak the edit just on the pre post Instagram editor.’

The former carpet cleaner, who lived out of his backpack between 2012 and 2016, met his Australian girlfriend Lauren in March 2016 while both travelling in Fiji.

The pair are now world-renowned travel bloggers who have visited more than 45 countries.

And they have turned their spontaneous travels into a lucrative career – earning a six figure salary for their postcard-like snapshots.

The couple rely on word of mouth, Pinterest and Instagram to find the ‘off the grid’ destinations they are so often pictured in.

‘We try to balance our life between being at home in Bali, travel jobs and travelling for fun,’ Jack said.

‘We aim to visit at least one new country each month, non work related, which most of the time is decided on by a last minute decision.’

The pair take all their own photos – and any snaps with the two of them together in one frame are taken via a tripod with a timer remote.

Last month, the couple shared a YouTube tutorial, showing the-step-by-step editing.

Using Adobe Light Room, the duo put an emphasis on making sure the right amount of exposure ensures the picture is vibrant.

‘The colours I like to use for the photos are usually orange or green or something in between, which is especially good for sunrise and sunset pictures,’ Lauren said.

Before they begin editing both Lauren and Jack start with their own image ‘presets’, which are saved image settings they use as their base.

‘I usually look for a preset that looks the best as it naturally is and the first thing I will do is come over to the exposure and increase it,’ Lauren explained.

She also increases the temperature and the tint of the image, depending on the photo that she’s working on.

‘When a photo is taken in the middle of the day it’s quite harsh lighting, so I usually like to bring the highlights down and the shadows up which evens out the light as you’ve got the shadows and the bright sun,’ she said.

‘The next thing is the whites and the blacks and they compliment the highlights and the shadows.

‘So I bring the whites up a little bit and I’ll also bring the blacks up a little bit for a bit of depth.’

Lauren said for each image she checks the horizon is straight and crops out any extra unnecessary imagery.

‘Next we have clarity, vibrancy and saturation. I don’t usually touch these ones too much, if anything I bring the clarity down, I don’t put it up.’

‘I like the yellows to be popped out a bit because it helps with the sand, my hair and the yellow of the palms,’ she explained.

Jack revealed how he ‘ups the exposure’, ‘decreases the warmth’ and increases highlight to ‘bring out the background’.

Unlike Lauren, Jack brings the saturation to full so that he can pick which colour he wants to use.

If there is an orange tint in an image, Jack would increase the blue to decrease the saturation and make certain aspects of an image pop.

‘I normally put a greeny orangey tint in my shadows to give it that vintage effect,’ Jack explained.

A vintage look is something that he desires for all of his photos and he said that he will often add grey to an image to ‘keep it quite moody’.

To get the same Instagram touch, the pair are now selling their custom presets on their website that can be applied to any photograph.
